Teenagers beating up a former friend and risking life in prison all to have it on You Tube. I have to say, Morrissey knew his age quite well:
I must move fast,
you understand me
I want to go down in celluloid history
Fame, fame, fatal Fame
It can play hideous tricks on the brain
But still I’d rather be famous Than righteous, or holy,
any day, any day, any day

There IS a way to curtail those ‘beatdown’ videos on YouTube (the one in Lakeland was hardly the first one).
But you can’t do it, nor can I, nor can anyone else in FL (BTW, I live in Osceola county).
So who can? That would be Google, who owns YouTube. And here’s how they can do it:
Give a press confrence and post top of page announcments on both Google search and YouTube stating they will implement a zero-tolerance policy on ‘beatdown’ videos and announce that they will enforce it.
How will they enforce it? Google, Gmail, Blogger and YouTube are extremely popular services.
As a business ”they reserve the right to deny service to anyone”. If some idiot posts a ‘beatdown’ video to YouTube, Google can give them the (online) ‘death penalty’.
The poster’s YouTube account is toast, their Gmail account is toast, their blog on Blogger is toast, and the poster will be IP blocked to ALL of Google’s services.
After a couple (online) ‘death penalties’ are deployed the message will be recived.
Not unlike going into a bar, starting a fight and the propriator says ”dude, you can’t come in here anymore”. And the bouncer at the door makes sure you don’t.
