I find this photo viscerally disturbing. I wonder if all the DADT haters and would-be enlightened guys in the officer corps realize there is little basis to object to this now and, more important, they won’t be free to speak out as the outlandish displays become more and more inconsistent with military culture and discipline. This is the new protected class, and, like women who were pushed into inappropriate roles in the wake of Tailhook, they and their actions will be beyond criticism.

Why would any conservative minded person wish to serve in this military? Whether it is the military being used to push social agendas or as canon fodder in worthless campaigns that have no direct bearing on US security, I cannot see how any person who considers themselves conservative would wish to serve today.
For the record I served as an infantryman (11B), and would not do so now.
I think young men of a certain type still want to prove their physical courage or demonstrate their patriotism. This is normal. I think also, in spite of this nonsense, it is still an institution–like competitive sports and the business world–with some standards of excellence and challenges that are distinct as far as “signifying one has become a man.” This is why the gay thing is so corrosive; it will destroy the military’s ability to confer this status. As the military becomes as p.c. as the average corporation and university campus, as it to some extent already has, the real men will quit, gravitate to special forces, or be corrupted by their silence and cooperation with evil.
Thanks for your service, UnPC. I can’t say as I blame you. My Dad served proudly in WWII, and to say that he would be horrified by today’s military is an understatement.
And don’t forget the quotas–both unofficial and official–that will come in its train for both promotion and assignments–and officers careers will be ruined for failure to meet them. And when they are not met one can be sure that the LGBT types will use both political pressure and the federal courts as leverage. This, like women in the combat arms, is a spreading cancer that will eventually spell the end of the armed services as a superior fighting force, as only PC types are promoted and competent types–both officer and enlisted–leave the service in droves–not all at once, but in a steady drip, drip, over time until all that is left are the types with the DMV-like mentality.
[...] Even worse, there is a whole legion of amoral, asskissing, careerist officers and NCOs who will say and do nearly anything to advance their careers, even stuff like this that would have been the punchline for a joke a few short years ago. And for those who don’t engage in careerist cheerleading, they’re implicated by their silence. [...]
