Corey's Revenge

The nutcase Angela Corey, whose unprofessional demeanor and appearance were pretty self evident in her original press conference, has now gone after Zimmerman and his wife, throwing the latter in jail for perjury, since it’s becoming more and more obvious that their murder prosecution is going down the drain.  This is not so different from getting Martha Stewart on obstruction or Scooter Libby on perjury when the underlying charges against them wouldn’t stick.  Prosecutors have a lot of tools, and if they have bad judgment, you’re pretty much screwed.  This blog notes that Zimmerman’s wife didn’t hide that there was money from the website available and that Zimmerman’s brother would know the amount at the bail hearing.  In other words, Corey could have gotten this information if she had really wanted to.  It’s also not obvious why Zimmerman or his wife would know exactly how much was there, nor why his wife would volunteer the lower boundary of that amount if these not-that-bright prosecutors didn’t ask her about it. 

Zimmerman and his wife will eventually go free.  But this case is a travesty of enormous proportions in every possible way.  We have weekly intifada style racial attacks in this country, almost all directed against whites, but this guy has been made into a national Dreyfuss figure, as if out of control middle class white homeowners were somehow a major national problem and source of problem.  They’re not.  The Sanford PD and prosecutors had it right, as this case was not clear enough to warrant prosecution from the beginning.  I hope Corey loses her job before this is all over; she’s unfit to handle her present position, has terrible judgment, and possibly has a screw loose.
