So, the FBI apparently conducted an extensive investigation into the civil rights aspect of the Travyon Martin case and concluded George Zimmerman was not a racist. Glad we settled that! Their entire investigation apparently consisted of asking people about Zimmerman’s attitudes and views generally on black people.
I find it a little disturbing that the FBI or any law enforcement agency would spend so much time looking into someone’s opinions. What if he had some racist views? Does that mean he “deprived Trayvon of his civil rights.” Lots of people have some racist views, but wouldn’t commit a crime. And the question of crime depends upon the facts and circumstances of a particular case. Whatever else Zimmerman thought in his entire life, the most important thought he had was the one that night: “My head is getting bashed into concrete.” Unpopular opinions do not deprive you of the right to self defense.
It’s not even clear the FBI bothered to establish whether what happened was self defense before getting into whether Zimmerman had “hate thoughts.” It was just a freestanding investigation of Zimmerman’s expressed opinions on race. This investigations is the most loopy and totalitarian thing I have seen come down the pike in a long time.

I suppose the issue is that in order for the federal government to get involved, the confrontation had to be a “hate crime.” So the FBI was trying to find whether their was sufficient evidence that it could be a federal matter. Apparently they are moving toward concluding that it could not be, so whether or not it was self-defense will have to be determined by the state government.
Such investigations as the FBI just concluded in this instance is yet another step down the path to “thought crimes.” Sheer madness. And be not fooled, in the future the only way to avoid being charged with an un-PC thought crime will be to toe the PC line. “How many black friends do you have,” will be the first question. “And how frequently do you have coffee with them” the inevitable second, and so on down the entirely predictable line..
Sheer madness..
