Apparently there is some concern that releasing a photo of a dead bin Laden may inflame Muslim sensitivities. But, seriously, what doesn’t offend this thin-skinned group’s sensitivities? Anodyne cartoons of Mohammad, a burning Koran by an obscure Florida preacher, protecting Saudi Arabia, occupying Afghanistan and Iraq, not being Muslim, pretty girls in bikinis, believing in Jesus Christ, democracy, airport security, alcohol, technology, and pretty much our entire way of life pisses them off. It’s not as if the actual killing of bin Laden didn’t offend a great many of them, in spite of the mythology that theirs is a religion of peace.
How much worse could proof of his death be? After all, we should remember, in addition to being thin-skinned and violent, many Muslims are ignorant and believe in the wildest conspiracy theories. It is still a common belief among them–and stoner American leftists–than the Mossad or the military industrial complex were responsible for the 9/11 attacks. A little photographic proof could not hurt. Indeed, while it may make some mad, it would also would shame them and weaken al Qaeda’s prestige.
Further, the photos would do something for Americans. Our sensitivities and desires matter too, and most of us desire to have, if not closure, at least some visual referfence point to see the end of this monster.
