The Libyan war was an incredible insult to common sense. It was ostensibly to “protect civilians,” but in practice we picked a group of ragtag and unpredictable rebels engaged in a regime change operation against someone who had made nice with the West several years ago. Unsurprisingly, the aspiring democrats of Libya summarily executed Kaddafi after beating him. They had a lot of old scores to settle, apparently, and this probably only would come as a surprise to the various Europeans who supported this operation. Obama, rather curiously, turns out to have a little bit of cold-blooded killer in him, whether regarding this or killing Osama bin Laden or al Alwiki a few weeks ago. And this doesn’t even bother me, other than the fact that he spent the better part of the Bush administration ripping on GITMO and our supposed human rights failures in Iraq. I guess he trusts himself to hold the reins, being the indispensable and great hearted man he sees himself as.
