Democrats are trying to ban guns, but their focus on high profile events is totally unrelated to any real explosion of “gun violence,” which is quite simply not happening. In fact, of gun deaths below, nearly 2 out of 3 of total gun deaths are from suicides. A problem, no doubt, but not one likely affected by gun control.
But it’s the explosion of drug use–particularly opioids and heroin–that has created a real series of problems in the last 15 years, even as it has become fashionable to decriminalize drug dealing and shrug one’s shoulders at drug use.
The gun control agenda is a distraction from a genuine problem that destroys people’s lives, communities, and causes other ancillary crimes like theft, robbery, and violence fueled by psychotic breakdowns.
There may be an intelligent conversation to be had about prioritizing rehabilitation over punishment for drug users, but punishing drug dealing, a selfish antisocial act of greedy dirt bags, does make sense as part of any anti-drug-abuse strategy. This ain’t the era of Nancy Reagan and “Just Say No,” which campaign actually did impact and reduce much drug use when coupled with aggressive enforcement and punishment, which is now decried as racist.
The whole situation and contrast in the statistics below is yet another manifestation of our elites’ utter failure to be responsible or evidence-based in their decisionmaking.
