Instead of investigating matters related to the use and abuse of power, our media is now a tool of power, amplifying certain preferred messages, while ignoring other stories wholesale. Rarely do they “censor,” nor are they censored. Instead, through a combination of bias, willful blindness, focus, and lack of focus, certain stories, themes, and questions are pushed to the forefront, and others drop off the face of the earth. By way of familiar example, we hear about George Zimmerman and his alleged crime, but black on white crimes are too troubling to make national news.
Never was this more apparent than in the mass media freakout regarding the Pulse shooting in Orlando. This was, indeed, a horrible crime that had an enormous bodycount that has devastated dozens of families. It was also an act of Islamic terrorism by what appears to be a self-radicalized American-born Muslim. But the reporting was overshadowed by blatant agenda-pushing. Anderson Cooper of CNN really embarrassed himself, as did others who pushed their existing agendas for gun control that would not have stopped the shooter, who was already a licensed security guard. We were also sold the all-too-neat suggestion that the shooter was a closeted homosexual on the basis of unverified accounts by supposed sex partners who had seen him on gay dating apps. The latter appears entirely false. Troubling questions remain. Why did he travel twice to the Middle East when he had a modest salary? Who did he meet with there? Why did the FBI discontinue its two investigations of him? Were there errors in the police response?
His wife Noor Salman–like the wife in San Bernardino–appears possibly to have been involved. She supposedly tried to talk him out of it, but she was with him when he purchased ammunition and had been at his side when he scouted locations. It’s all looks fishy; she has possible co-conspirator or accessory liability. I’m not entirely sure what happened, but it should be investigated. The victims cry for justice from the grave!
Well, she is gone. She’s skipped town. No one knows where she is. The media is not talking about this. You can search under google news. Mainstream sources dropped their reporting of this massive failure around June 17.
The media had their “two minute hate” on behalf of gun control, they peddled their theories of the shooter’s motivations to promote the gay cause (after all the evils of closeted gays can only be combatted with more strenuous efforts of acceptance), and now they’ve moved on.
The media’s reporting priorities are driven by their political priorities and their political messaging goals. Their two primary messages from the Pulse Shooting are now out there, and the question of what exactly happened and how the government dropped the ball before, during, and after this incident is apparently not so interesting. This is all nakedly partisan, because these types of follow-up stories will tend to mute the messages that promote the liberal cause and, in addition, will show the mass incompetence of the Obama administration and its key lieutenants, such as Attorney General Loretta Lynch.
These demonstrable cases of government misfeasance, particularly in letting the only living person responsible for this horrible attack go missing, undermine the liberal fantasy regarding open borders, Islam, and domestic security. The introduction of additional Muslims requires an assumption of terrorism being a minuscule outlier event, that it can be predicted, and that our safety can be vouchsafed by competent government surveillance. We’re told now we can let in thousands of Syrian refugees who will be “vetted” and that our existing multicultural society is sustainable and safe. But, if American-born Muslims who are integrated in their communities, have jobs, and have families are potentially radicalized, how much more of an uphill battle we will have with those newcomers who are socially isolated, unemployed, less familiar with American culture, and the like.
So, rather than questioning this manifestly failed series of policies, policies that are rooted in liberal notions of equality and technocratic faith in government, we instead get a remarkable silence regarding a most embarrassing situation: the escape of the Muslim co-conspirator wife of the man who undertook the worst shooting spree attack in American history.
